This 1964 GTO 389/4 speed has passed the test of time and is a well taken care of, lightly restored survivor! Credited as starting the "muscle car era" most 4 speed GTOs found them selves wrapped around telephone polls, rusted out, hot rodded or vanished to never be seen again! This 4 speed is a rare, all original site to see. The silver exterior paint is a stunning fresh repaint and matches nicely with the black vinyl top and interior. The original rebuilt 389 motor is healthy and sounds the same as it did in 1964. The black bucket seat interior is a true time capsule. The dash and console show minor wear and tear adding character and history to the driving experience. Complete with PHS documents. Overall, if your looking for a very original 4 speed GTO that drives like new, look no further!

History:

The first Pontiac GTO was available as an optional package for the Pontiac Tempest, available in coupé, hardtop, and convertible body styles. The US$295 package included a 389ci V8 rated at 325hp at 4,800 rpm with a single Carter AFB four-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust pipes, chromed valve covers and air cleaner, seven-blade clutch fan, a floor-shifted three-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter, stiffer springs, larger diameter front sway bar, wider wheels with 7.50 × 14 redline tires, hood scoops, and GTO badges. Optional equipment included a four-speed manual transmission, Super Turbine 300 two-speed automatic transmission, a more powerful engine with "Tri-Power" carburetors (three two-barrel Rochester 2G carburetors) rated at 348hp, metallic drum brake linings, limited-slip differential, heavy-duty cooling, ride and handling package, and the usual array of power and convenience accessories. With every available option, the GTO cost about US$4,500 and weighed around 3,500 lbs. A tachometer was optional, and was placed in the far right dial on the dash.
